Matt grew up in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, a rural, country town in the pennyroyal plateau known for its farms and factories. This instilled in Matt a “blue collar,” “hands on” work ethic and gave him first-hand experience of the harm big corporations can do to ordinary, working class people. This work ethic and experience now drives Matt in his fight against corporations and insurance companies to get maximum settlements and verdicts for his injured clients, many of whom are ordinary, working class people reminiscent of Matt’s Kentucky roots.
An outstanding student, Matt left rural Kentucky to pursue a college education on the east coast. He received a B.A. in philosophy in 2003 from the University of Virginia, where he was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and served as a senior columnist for both The Cavalier Daily and The Angle magazine. He began his legal education at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, where he was the recipient of the Scholars in Law academic merit scholarship. He completed his legal education in 2007 at the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he was the recipient of the Chancellor’s academic merit scholarship and served as a senior staff member for The Kentucky Law Journal. After law school, Matt left the cold winters of Kentucky for the warm, sunny skies of Las Vegas and passed the bar on first attempt in 2007.
Few personal injury trial attorneys in Las Vegas can say that they once represented the same big corporations and insurance companies they now sue. Matt is an exception to the rule. For the first half decade of his career, Matt worked for one of Nevada’s oldest and most respected law firms, where he defended corporations and insurance companies in cases involving defective products, automobile accidents, wrongful deaths, trip and falls, slip and falls, and the denial of insurance rights and benefits. He has been involved in some of the largest cases in the history of Nevada courts involving hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts. This includes representing pharmaceutical companies in various lawsuits related to Hepatitis C infections at local endoscopy clinics and representing a national plumbing distributor in various lawsuits related to the installation of Wirsbo yellow brass pipe fittings in residential and commercial buildings in Clark County. He also represented many local casinos in lawsuits related to accidents, assaults, and batteries suffered by patrons. This experience has provided Matt with invaluable, insider knowledge on the various tricks, strategies, and tactics corporations and insurance companies utilize to maximize profits and to deny just compensation to injured people. He even knows the “ins and outs” of the testimony of many of the typical, local expert witnesses hired by big corporations and insurance companies to testify against injured people. With Matt as your attorney, you have an aggressive, experienced advocate fighting for your rights against the same corporations and insurance companies he once represented.
When not working, Matt enjoys spending free time with his wife Meredith and their German Shepherd Walter. His hobbies include shooting handguns, boxing, mixed martial arts, jiu jitsu, college football, woodworking, automotive sports, hiking, fishing, and playing guitar.
